Improved Access to Katie Beckett Medicaid

Newsletter: 2024, Issue 4

The Katie Beckett Program offers a doorway into Medicaid for thousands of families in Wisconsin. For the first time, families whose children are enrolled in the Katie Beckett Program can manage their coverage online through the Access website, access.wi.gov. They can also apply for the program through Access.

This online portal can be used to:

      • Access benefit information

      • See your child’s next renewal date to help plan ahead

      • Upload documents online instead of using the mail

      • Apply for Katie Beckett Medicaid. Keep in mind that families will still need to talk with an eligibility specialist and set up an in-person visit for a county staff member to complete a functional screen.

What is Katie Beckett Medicaid?

The Katie Beckett Program is a special eligibility process that allows children under 19 to access Medicaid. Children may qualify for Katie Beckett Medicaid even if:

      • They are not eligible for other Medicaid programs because of their parents’ or guardians’ income or assets

      • They are covered by private health insurance

Updating Your Contact Information: If your child is covered by Katie Beckett, make sure your contact information is current. You can update your information by emailing DHSKatieBeckett@dhs.wisconsin.gov or by calling the Katie Beckett Medicaid Central Office at (888) 786-3246.
